Who would have thought the dog agility bug could bit so hard! After
seeing Wight Wizards at a display last year I came along
with my Cocker Spaniel to a training day. Almost a year later I feel we
know what we are doing now and that we are doing it quite well.
Rolo was 18 months old when we started and as I’d only seen collies
perform at agility I was surprised he showed no fear and was eager to
have his go. Although collies are fabulous at agility I’ve learnt any
breed can and do take part.
With your patience and precise instructions we have come a long way. If
I have read the course correctly we do well, if I have not Rolo stands
no chance of getting it right. We really have to work as a team.
Sometimes I feel I hold him back because he runs much faster that I do
but with training sending him ahead can enable me to shorten my run. We
do this for fun – Rolo can’t wait for his turn, the contact apparatus
being his favourite. If it can be scaled he can’t help himself!
To anyone thinking of trying dog agility I say “Give it a go”. It is a
great source of exercise and fun.
We look forward to our Monday evening training sessions and I’m off to
get ready for tonight’s.
